Maxion Wheels: Logistics Under Control Thanks to Data and Automation
Maxion Wheels is one of the world's leading manufacturers of steel and aluminium wheels for the automotive and industrial sectors. The group operates 24 plants across five continents, employs more than 10,000 people and produces over 50 million wheels a year. The Maxion Wheels Czech s. r. o. plant (the Autokola plant) in Ostrava builds on a long tradition of wheel manufacturing and focuses on steel wheels for passenger cars and wheels for forklifts, placing high demands on efficient, seamless and data-driven logistics.
Our primary goal was not to cut costs, but to gain control over our logistics operations. We needed data, transparency and a tool that would show us the true performance of our logistics and allow us to manage it in line with production.

Why did you decide to look into selecting a loading/unloading planning system?
The main impetus was the inefficiency of managing carrier arrivals and departures at the plant premises. We were dealing with unnecessary waiting times, congestion on access roads, complicated communication between drivers and the shipping department, and uneven workloads for warehouse and shipping staff. We lacked data, reports and the ability to objectively evaluate the performance of our logistics processes.
The goal of the project was to implement a transparent, digitised and automated tool that would allow us to manage logistics based on data, plan capacity and eliminate manual administrative tasks.
How did you go about searching for a time slot management application?
We were looking for a system that would enable comprehensive management of carrier arrivals and optimisation of loading and unloading times, while being flexible and ready for further development. Time Slot Control caught our attention with its modularity, cloud-based delivery, integration with internal systems and wide use in industrial operations across various sectors and regions.
How did the system implementation go? Did you encounter any issues, and did everything go on schedule?
The implementation involved several key steps. First, we had to make sure all end users were informed about the new system and prepare the technical and construction groundwork for the self-service kiosk. This was followed by a testing period during which we fine-tuned the environment and adjusted the process to real-world operations.
One of the biggest challenges was bringing carriers into the system and changing established procedures. The project required significant preparation resources, but thanks to a phased rollout and clearly defined rules, we successfully launched the system into full operation.
What changes did you observe after implementation? Did it bring any benefits or advantages?
A key benefit was a much clearer overview and control of transport capacity. We eliminated unnecessary waiting, simplified communication with carriers and balanced the workload of warehouse and shipping staff. The administrative burden fell significantly, and individual steps were digitised and automated.
Thanks to the system, we now have high-quality data and reports that let us set up new processes and KPIs and plan warehouse staff shifts effectively. Reservations also include attachments, such as delivery notes or photos of damaged goods, which makes the whole process more transparent. Orders have been significantly optimised, as suppliers create reservations in advance via the Stack of orders.
Do you have any specific data on how efficiency has improved thanks to the implementation of TSC?
Yes. Our current capacity is approximately 5,000 loading and unloading operations. We have kept our handling capacity at this level consistently over the past 3 years. Logistics at our plant runs mostly on a single shift, but carriers can book time slots in Time Slot Control 24/7, and a growing number of bookings are processed via the self-service kiosk and the Stack of orders.
How have business partners, customers and carriers adapted to the new system?
Getting carriers on board was one of the project's biggest challenges, but it gradually became clear that the system benefits them too. They have clear information about their reservations, receive timely SMS notifications, and the system gives them smoother check-in without unnecessary waiting.
The solution also includes Call to Gate, which automatically calls drivers to the loading dock, significantly simplifying communication and removing confusion.
What steps have you taken to automate and better organise vehicle arrivals for loading and unloading?
Automation starts as soon as the carrier arrives on site. The driver checks in at a self-service kiosk, verifies their contact details and adds the information needed for loading or unloading. This eliminates manual paperwork and streamlines communication with carriers. At the same time, we know who the driver is, which matters for security.
By recording mandatory rest breaks, we can see driver availability and manage vehicle dispatch to the loading docks more effectively. This prevents situations where a driver is called to load or unload when they are no longer allowed to continue driving. Further communication runs through the Call to Gate module via SMS, which means smoother operations, better use of capacity and faster vehicle handling.
Why TSC from Lotraco?
The deciding factors were the solution's completeness, its flexibility and its potential for further development. Time Slot Control offers complete yard management, including kiosks, cameras, LED panels, barriers, notifications, reporting and API integrations with internal systems such as ERP or WMS. Another major advantage is the cloud-based solution with minimal upfront costs and access from anywhere.
How satisfied are you with the application, the user interface and technical support?
The system is very intuitive and available in 11 languages, which is crucial for working with international carriers. System administration is clear and lets us configure parameters ourselves without needing the supplier. Technical support has been of a very high standard throughout implementation and operation.
What benefits of TSC would you highlight?
The main benefits include access to high-quality data, operational transparency, effective capacity planning and support for production. Thanks to the system, we can respond better to changes in production volume, optimise warehouse and shipping work and prepare for further process automation. The system gives a clear overview not only to management but also to operational staff, who know exactly what to expect.
Would you recommend TSC to another company in your industry?
Absolutely. Especially to companies with a high volume of loading and unloading, where organisation, data and transparency are key. Time Slot Control helped us move from unmanaged operations to data-driven, automated logistics.
