Time Slot Control Expands with a New Language

Imagine arriving on holiday in Greece. You need to check in, ask for directions or find out where to pick up your keys. You try English, but the other side doesn’t understand. You gesture, use a translator and try to make yourself understood somehow. A situation many of us know, and one that can even be amusing for a moment. In logistics, though, a language barrier is no laughing matter. Every day, drivers from different European countries arrive at production plants, distribution centres and warehouses. They need to know where to register, where to position the vehicle, which loading dock to drive to, or when their cargo will be checked in. And if a driver and the person at the gate or in the warehouse don’t understand each other, even a simple question can mean several minutes of delay, and sometimes a complication for the entire operation.

Not every driver speaks English. And the gate attendant doesn’t have to speak twelve languages.

International logistics naturally brings language diversity with it. Drivers often speak mainly their native language and only basic phrases in English or German. It is therefore unrealistic to expect logistics staff to be able to communicate in all the languages drivers may use on arrival. This is exactly where digitalisation can help. Time Slot Control enables drivers to communicate with the system in their own language. And we are now expanding the number of supported languages to include Greek. Greek thus joins the other languages Time Slot Control supports and reflects the national mix of drivers arriving at our customers’ sites.

Adding Greek is another step in our effort to adapt Time Slot Control to the real environment of European logistics. We do not want a driver to have to think about how to communicate on arrival at the site. We want the system to be able to communicate smoothly with the driver in their native language. Because just like on holiday, the same simple rule applies in logistics: When we understand each other, everything goes more smoothly.

From reservation to check-in

Multilingual support in Time Slot Control is not just a matter of convenience. It is part of the entire driver handling process. The driver can use the system when making a reservation of a time window and then receive important information and instructions in the selected language. This reduces the space for misunderstandings and at the same time limits situations where warehouse or gate staff have to repeatedly explain basic information. This is especially important in operations that check in large numbers of vehicles every day and whose logistics depend on precise timing of individual arrivals and departures.

Fewer misunderstandings. Faster check-in. Smoother operations.
